Tennessee has an active program to attract retirees to this state TN is a larger state than many people realize, and because of that size there are many different types of retirement lifestyles available. For example you could retire to a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, an inexpensive town in the western part of the state, a college town, or a big, cosmopolitan city like Nashville or Memphis. Even the differences between the eastern and western portions of the state offer a lot of variety


 
 

Here are some of our favorite places to retire in TN:

  • Paris, TN - Paris is a small town near 2 gigantic lakes. For a peaceful, lake side retirement, Paris is hard to beat.
  • Chattanooga - This famous site of a crucial Civil War battle offers low-cost retirement in a very friendly city.
  • Knoxville - Home to the "Vols" of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a very exciting little city with plenty to do.
  • Crossville - It's been dubbed the "Golf Capital of Tennessee" because of its 12 area golf courses. Several large active adult communities are in the area.
  • Tellico Village - This is a giant active adult community located on Tellico Lake about 30 minutes from Knoxville. There is every kind of activity from 3 championship golf courses to boating and fishing.
  • Maryville - Maryville, also near Knoxville, is home to Maryville College. This private liberal arts college of about 850 has several buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Its location on 400 acres in the center of town makes this a very special place.
